About AIUnderstood

An Erasmus+ project bringing AI literacy to secondary education across Europe.

Our Mission

AIUnderstood is an Erasmus+ funded project dedicated to making AI literacy accessible to secondary school teachers and their students across Europe. We believe that understanding artificial intelligence is essential for navigating and shaping our increasingly digital world.

Our consortium of five European organizations has developed a comprehensive set of educational resources — including videos, lesson plans, and practical guides — designed to help teachers integrate AI concepts into their existing curriculum, regardless of their technical background.

All resources are freely available in five languages and designed with inclusivity in mind, ensuring that every student can participate in learning about AI.

Fermat Science

France

Project Coordinator

The association Fermat Science aims to promote and popularize mathematics and science, heritage and culture through the character and work of the famous mathematician Pierre de Fermat. Through its actions of popularization, Fermat Science hopes to contribute to encouraging more young people (especially girls) to move toward scientific careers. It has been developing teaching tools and exhibitions and organizes events and workshops for schools and the general public. For each of the projects developed, a scientific council validates the tools.

Fermat Science has been growing continuously for several years. Through its multiple partnerships, it has, over the years, gained notoriety. The association is a leader in several European projects, including ERASMUS+ projects on the themes of non-formal education, mathematics and science.

Fermat Science is in charge of the animation of Pierre de Fermat's birthplace, located in Beaumont-de-Lomagne in the Tarn-et-Garonne.

In 2024, the association opened the Fermat Museum in the birthplace of Pierre de Fermat. The museum is dedicated to the life and work of the mathematician, while also exploring mathematics and computer science more broadly. Its first temporary exhibition focused on artificial intelligence and it helped visitors understand how mathematical models can explain key concepts of AI, contributing to innovative approaches to AI education and STEM learning.

Istituto Europeo di Studi Superiori – IESS

Italy

IESS is an innovative, state-approved high school in Reggio Emilia that places the student at the center of the learning process. The school is a pioneer in teaching innovation, utilizing digital classrooms, personal iPads for all students and teachers, and digital-format textbooks.

IESS staff are active researchers in areas such as STEM education, media literacy, and applying AI to enhance personalized learning. With a strong international vocation, the school offers integrated curricula in European languages and culture, complemented by extensive foreign exchange programs and research into soft skills and sustainable digital citizenship.

European Literacy for All Network – ELAN

Belgium

The European Literacy for All Network (ELAN) is a non-governmental organisation based in Mons, Belgium, committed to advancing literacy education across Europe with a strong focus on accessibility and inclusion. Acting as a central hub for educators, researchers, and policymakers, ELAN promotes collaboration and the exchange of best practices in the field of literacy education.

The organisation adopts a broad perspective on literacy, encompassing reading comprehension, critical information processing, and multilingual education, while placing particular emphasis on supporting individuals with specific learning disorders (SLD). ELAN has developed both digital and non-digital innovative methods and tools tailored to diverse linguistic and cultural contexts.

Through the delivery of workshops, conferences, and training sessions, ELAN offers professionals opportunities for networking, skill enhancement, and the discovery of new instructional approaches. With recognised expertise in integrating technology into education, the organisation ensures that its resources are accessible and adaptable to the needs of a wide range of learners and educators.

Across all its initiatives, ELAN remains firmly dedicated to fostering inclusive and digital literacy education by producing digital pedagogical content and supporting the development of effective online learning environments.

5th High School of Agrinio

Greece

The 5th High School of Agrinio is a public secondary institution and an accredited teacher training center. The school features high-tech facilities, including specialized physics, chemistry, and educational robotics labs equipped with Arduino and Microbit technology.

They have a history of impactful social engagement, having trained over 500 disadvantaged students (including Roma and immigrant populations) in programming through Google-funded initiatives. The project team is led by Dr. Fotis Lazarinis, a computer science teacher and researcher with a PhD in educational technology, ensuring the project's outputs are grounded in academic excellence and 21st-century pedagogical skills.

Ukmergės Užupio pagrindinė mokykla

Lithuania

Recognized as one of the best 30 schools in Lithuania, Ukmergės Užupio is a leader in integrating IT and logical thinking into general education. The school is renowned for its "Productive Learning" program, which helps students who have lost motivation or have learning difficulties to find success through personalized vocational and practical pathways.

Their curriculum introduces IT skills from the first grade, and the school participates annually in the World Coding Hour. With a "Safe Cyberspace" certification and highly qualified staff, the school brings deep expertise in digital citizenship and innovative, acting-based communication methods to the project.
